The only time I was in Virginia was a few years ago doing Bull Run on the Cedar Creek Battlefield.  That was the only time I was in that region of the country.  While I was there in July all I needed was a ground cloth. I have been told by the locals that it can get quite cool there in November, and there is still a chill lingering around in April.  I would love to see Virginia in the winter. I am sure it is quite nice. I try not to carry a blanket, but I will not rule it out as an option.

Good to be Cavalry.  Poncho goes over pommel.  Two blankets rolled up on the cantle of the saddle.  On really cold nights you can use the saddle blanket too.  Bad part is that horse and horse poop attract horse-flies and mosquitoes!  http://www.aceboard.net/kator/smiley81.abgif

Mr. Parault,

There's an old joke that if you don't like the weather in the Shenandoah Valley, just wait ten minutes. It will change! That holds especially true in the Spring and Fall. I've been to the Cedar Creek event in October, when it's been eighty degrees one day and forty degrees the next. Oh yeah, and raining!

I do believe it was that Bull Run at Cedar Creek event, where we got soaked to the skin while waiting for the scenario to start. Ten minutes later it was sunny and ninty degrees again.

Hey now...I slept in that same haybarn at my first even spring dust off and represent your statement about ths snoring!

Maybe that's why the captain slept in the other half of the barn from us lowly privates.
