Hi, I'm just getting started with reenacting and was wondering if anyone had bought a Mississippi rifle from Regimental Quartermaster: https://www.regtqm.com/Musket_MississippiRifle1841.htm

If so, how do you like it?  I'm considering buying it.  Any info would be helpful.  Thanks, BrooksvilleRaider.

Hi, welcome to the forum. One minor issue; please sign your name to your posts, this can be done automatically if you add it in the profile settings.

As to your question about the rifle. Euro Arms is one of the two most common manufacturers of weapons for the hobby and as a general rule are quite satisfactory (the other being ArmySport). The question I would ask though is whether or not this is the proper weapon for your unit's impression? You really need to check with your unit leadership before purchasing anything and I speak not only as a reenactor but as a sutler as well.

When it comes to a Euroarms or Armi Sport weapon, it really matters not who you buy it through if you are happy with the service of that seller. It's sort of like deciding if you want to buy your Fruit of the Looms from Wal*Mart, K-Mart, Target, or Sears. In the end you have a package of T-shirts from the same manufacturer, the only difference is who got the profit from the retail markup.

Thanks for your response.

I worded my post badly.  I meant to ask what people's opinions of that rifle were and what their opinion of Regimental Quartermaster was.  It just accidentally got muddled together.

I did ask my Company Captain whether it was suitable for the unit, but I wanted some other opinions as to reliability.  I don't believe he has one of those particular weapons.

Vince,

You asked two questions, so I'll give you two answers. In regard to the Mississippi Rifle. I own a Mississippi Rifle. I purchased this weapon for live shooting long before I got in the Hobby. In twenty years of reenacting, I have never had an occasion to bring this weapon to an event. It may well be that the unit you are portraying carried Mississippi Rifles. In that case, it would be a good choice. Otherwise, an Enfield, a M-1842, or a M-1861 would be far better choices. (What weapon do the majority of guys in your unit use?)

In regard to The Regimental Quartermaster. They do a big business in firearms and usually have a good choice in stock. I have purchased weapons from them and have always been happy with their customer service. They sell both streight from the box and defarbed weapons. If you are looking for a defarbed weapon, the discussion gets really long and pretty much no two people completly agree on anything!   smile/indecis.gif

In regard to your name, we are looking for both a first and last! As Bob said, just set up a signiture block and be done with it.

Thanks!  I'm not sure what kind of weapons they use.  I did send an email to the Captain of my Company (he handles equipment procurement, etc.) and asked if it would be appropriate.

Vince,

I noticed on another board you were planning on coming to Olustee in a couple of weeks. I'll be set up at Olustee as a sutler AND participating as a combatant. I'll also be at Camp Milton in Jacksonville the weekend before at the Road to Olustee event. A discussion started over on the other board about the sliding scale of events (i.e. mainstream to authentic) and you were inquiring about other events to attend. Stop by my sutler tent at some point and I'd love to talk to you, (NO guys, this is not a cheap attempt to "lure" him into my sutlery  ;) ) and discuss some of the different events around the area. There are a handful of more immersive events if you know where to look for them. FYI here is a link to the Road to Olustee event:
