I was talking to Mike Davis and a question came up. Ignoring the obvious farby issue, will a modern muzzleloader percussion cap fit on, and work with a reproduction Springfield or Enfield nipple? I have shot a .55 cal Hawkins reproduction for years and I don't remember ever having to specify what sort of caps I buy. I've even used those same caps on a Navy Colt revolver.

Again, other than the anachronistic nature of the caps' appearance and construction, would they still work with our repros?

Thanks.

Hallo!

 In brief... no.

"Hawken" rifles use what we would consider a No, 11 or No. 10
"pistol cap" which are too small for a rifle-musket's cone.
