I can't help you in finding a military unit, but it sounds like you're close to me! We live near Crown City, Ohio, about 45 minutes from Huntington WV.

I almost always do civilian, which you don't really need to join a unit for, since registration is usually individual, and I generally travel to events anyway rather than reenact locally.

If you're interested in military events/units, some of the military guys here will be along in a little while to suggest units in Ohio. There are lots of different styles of reenacting, generally depending on how historically accurate of an experience you want.

For military in Ohio, is there really any question of where to go other than Mess #1? (Shameless plug for our benevolent leader, administrator, and grand poobah Ken). Remember where to send him for gear Ken  ;)

Seriously, Mess #1 is well respected and known. I'm sure there are other fine groups up that way but this is one I am familiar enough with to reccomend.

Yea I live in chesapeake, ohio and huntington, wv is just right across the river. Me and my dad usually spectate perryville, ky, battle of barboursville, wv, guyandotte, wv, hurricane, wv(also known as the battle of scary creek) and sometimes might venture up to buffington, island, and zoar, ohio. if any units go to those events that would be great.

The 6th Ohio (of which Mess #1 is an invaluable part) is doing both Perryville and Zoar this year.  It's great having the Mess #1 guys in the 6th.  They've brought the authenticity level of the whole unit light years from where it used to be.  Check out the 6th's website.  http://6thohio.homestead.com/
