Now I have a monument to find. I think it's out on Route 30. What was that big to do over real soldiers and a parade?

Grumpy,

One of the least expensive buys at the G'burg VC is the monument map, which is an incredible bang for the buck. With all the improvements up that way in recent years, maybe we need to gather the lads and have a staff ride.

I prefer the Nimbus 2000 over the normal staff. Any opinions?

Can we go by the Earwax Museum? Pleeeeease......

Cool pics!  Faith Hintzen is putting on an 1888 event entitled "Return to Gettysburg" this fall.  It's a civilian immersion event celebrating the 25th anniversary of the battle.  We're hoping to book most of the B&B with participants!

If 75 years after the battle some of the guys are continuing to wear their uniforms it looks like our gut is right that some of the boys can wear their uniforms (or at least part of them) that is, if they were old enough to have fought in the battle!  It's hard to believe that the veterans need to be 41 years of age or upward for this event.

But never-the-less, great pics!

Linda

I have in my possession, about 30 more photo's from this reunion. Would you like me to post them? If not all, what would you like to see?

OK, here's a fact I ususally get the "really!? no kidding!" answer to. The guys who attended the 75th at Gettysburg were veterans of the CW, not veterans of the Gettysburg fight only. Did you just think "Really!?."

Here's a good photo to start with:

I think you may get one a day until they're finished.

Grumpy,

That makes sense. There wouldn't be that many Gettysburg vets left 75 years later.

"M.D. VANCE, PAST COMMANDER OF THE U.C.V., AND S.S. SIMMONS, COMMANDER OF THE PACIFIC DIVISION OF THE U.C.V., WHO SERVED TOGETHER IN THE 8TH CAVALRY."
http://img521.imageshack.us/img521/6859/mdvancepastcommanderoftmk4.jpg

"Our research discovered a Sampson S. Simmons, born on 11/5/43 in Milton, WV, who enlisted as a Private at age 18 on 4/30/62, at which time he was mustered into Co.E, 8th Virginia Cavalry. He was taken prisoner on 8/7/64 at Moorefield, Hardy County, WV. Simmons was confined at Camp Chase, OH from August 1864 until exchanged at Point Lookout, MD on 3/18/65. Took the Oath of Allegiance at Charleston, WV on 5/22/65. Attended Reunion of Border Rangers in 1893, after which he moved to Bell, CA, where he died on 1/28/1942.
The only M.D. Vance we could find was a member of the 11th Arkansas Infantry who enlisted on 7/29/61 at Benton, AR as a Captain. Captured on 4/8/62 at Island No. 10, MO, and was sent to Camp Chase, OH, then to Johnson's Island, OH on 5/1/62. Transferred to Vicksburg, MS for exchange on 9/1/62. Paroled 5/19/65 at Jackson, MS, having risen to the rank of Lt. Colonel."
