Connected??? I think they founded it. I went to one a few years ago (just to see if they had gotten any better since the 80s which was the previous one I had gone to) where the winner of the joust was a female who was referred to as Dame (whatever her name was) so they don't even try to be historically accurate. Most of their events make farb fests look like the Immortal 600. I'm sure they're fun but what is the spectators impression when they go home??

You guys forgot to mention Kiss conventions.  You oughta see the almost sick devotion to a band that pretty much, sucked after 1978.  Lick it Up!?!?!  Give me a break!  Mind you I am a fan,(sort of) and even wore Gene Simmons make up to the reunion show in '96.

When I went to Gettysburg it was early October.  Absolutly beautiful time of year!

This question is along the same lines as the original post requesting the best time of the year for a visit.  If my bride of 30+ years and I drive from the Mississippi Gulf Coast, how much time (days??) should we realistically schedule for the Gettysburg area?  How long does one of the “Licensed Battlefield Guide” tours take?

How detailed do you want to get?

I am sure based on the size of the battlefield and town, you could spend a weekend there.. and still miss some things.

If you want to do the usual stuff and see the main points, you can probably plan on like a day to drive/walk around the battlefield and see the well known spots.

I believe the guide tours are two hours. You can even reserve one online (sorry do not have the site). Of course during the busy season they book quickly. The guide drive your car and can get as detailed as you want. Myself I would allow at a minimum 3 days in the area so you can visit Antietam which is just down the road.
