Grumpy, you are right. The calibration on that meter expires in late June with the anniversary of Shippensburg. smile/eek.gif

I love it,

The event schedule is in military time.

I've been looking at those CW Winter Quarters. Do any of you know if they are accepting reenactor groups to put on LH's on the site?

Usually a CW weekend in the fall there, the timeline in the spring and other time periods during the year. The powers that be really have just started the LHs a few years ago and I am sure are happy to receive suggestions and help. James Owens of the 1st Minn would be the person to talk to about this as he has been involved since day one.

The streak is broken! The sun was out all day yesterday! For a SOYA living history, it was pretty neat. Me knowing nothing or little about the kit required for the different hobbies had a fine time looking at the other folks and being impressed. There are a few things I do know. There weren't any sewing machines during the Rev, 1812 and that first thing in Mexico, LOL. The flintlock boys had a bad time of it during their firing demo's. Lots of misfires. The handler that took us on and off the field said we had the best show of the day. Units present were the 1st Minn(8 guys), 83rd PA(6), 69th PA, and the 9th PA reserves(who hogged up all of the winter quarters. That was OK though, they arrived on Thursday from Pittsburgh.) all told there were 22 ranks in the moving infantry. The Phoenix Iron Pards(10) were there doing engineering stuff. They built a couple of those wooded woven basket stick things filled with dirt and a nice rifle pit with a head log. The LR(8) were there as Confederates, stationed in the gun implacement, they were describing the use of CW artillery and did bayonet drill off and on all day.  The 9th Reserves also had a surgeon who had a pretty good set up and knew his business. There were in my eyes the usual uniform issues(Corporal Sharps Doo Rag) with some of the participants but all were well drilled. For the demo, one platoon were properly deployed by the right flank as skirmishers, we advanced firing, wheeled right(to avoid taters) and rallied on the reserve, by Casey's. The rest was the normal NPS firing demo stuff. I didn't take my camera but wished I would have. I have never, at any LH that I have done, talked to so many spectators. I'd bet there were 7 to 10,000 people that went through, I am not kidding. I shook a lot of hands and thanked a lot of folks for their service.  It was neat to see WWII vets asking the WWII reenactor guys if they could see thier M1's to check the seriel #'s. "I just wanted to see if it was my rifle," was pretty neat to hear.  That's one I'd do again. Oh, and there was free picnic food. Oh yea, there was a wet plate photographer right next to us. From right to left, John Fegan, Matt Steiger and Me.

As sites go, It's about the same as the PA Monument at Gettysburg combined with the I-81 traffic at New Market. But, there was plenty going on to get me to overlook all that. Besides, it didn't rain and I got my "weathered" look on for the season.

Grumpy,

Those huts make a great backdrop for a photo. Your day was a lot better than mine; which was spent trimming bushes and spreading mulch.

No rain, none, nada drop. There were clouds, nice white fluffy ones; with formations of Apache Helocopters screeming through them. It was neat.

Grumpy,

It sounds like a fine time. I'm surprised it didn't rain here this morning, as it sure looked like a good long soaking rain was headed our way. You'll be delighted to know I harvested some of the Winter 1864 potatoes this morning; however, as unintentional as that little hiller calibration error was, we'll be enjoying the first boiled and buttered new 'taters of the season.  Peas for that event aren't looking worth a darn at this point, and some Mule Blight may be to blame for that. Ahem.
