It looks like there's going to be two Gettysburg 145th. reenactments next year; one by the GAC and a second by Chris Anders. Good idea, bad idea, or who cares?  smile/indecis.gif

I think it's a great Idea, what Chris is doing. His event is the weekend before the GAC event. I know lots of folks who wouldn't even consider attending if it were only the GAC event but, now are really excited to go, because there's something better. Besides, I'd venture to guess all the money Chris raises will go to preservation and not into his pocket. And, I'll bet his 'tater tickets are waaaay less expensive too.

Agree with Dave on this...Chris's events usually are quite well thought out.

Fortunately for Grumpy, he has scheduled his 2008 vacation time to avoid all this happy hoohah in Greedysburg.

I think it is a good idea.. I have been doing this hobby since 1998 and have managed to avoid going out to Gettysburg for any of the events there.  Although I did have a chance to do the big one in 98 but I was 1 vacation day short of going.  And living in GA at the time made it a little tricky.

I think I lost the taste for the big events after A140 and reading all the AARs from Gettysburg over the years haven't had the desire to go out to one.  But having done a couple of the events that Chris has put on, I might be willing to break the tradition and go do a Gettysburg event.

Although I can't make either this year I think it's a good idea for this reason: competition casues the bar to be raised. If Chris can put on a good event that creates some issues for the mega event that causes said mega event to improve then everyone wins.

My mainstream unit is going to the mega event next year so I will too. I have always witheld opinions on events I have not attended but from reading the past AARs I figure seeing a circus once in a while won't hurt me. Call it morbid curiosity and who knows ith it being a five year event maybe I'll get lucky and see something more akin to the 135th I've heard so much about.

Yes, Marc, that was pretty much the discussion last Saturday. Dave knew well in advance he really didn't want to be fooling with over 4,000 hard crackers, and nearly 400 pounds of salty meat product. The lutefisk ration may need outsourcing.

FYI-

We are working with the Adams County Land Conservatory who wil be the folks who get all monies left after expenses.

Per request of the landowner, who has donated the use of the property if we do so.  Seems win win to me.
