I spent vacation in August re-publishing "How to Camp Out" by John Mead Gould, a Maine Civil War infantry veteran. He published it in 1877, maybe the "for dummies" book, in this case, camping and hiking for dummies.  He drew heavily upon his campaign experience during the war and mentions a great many things about camping out and marching during the war, all of which help to inform the reenacting experience.

It's available electronically online from The Gutenberg Project, for free. Several folks asked about a print edition, and I went ahead and produced one at what I think is a reasonable price: $12, including postage. Proceeds after profits, about $8 per book, go to historic preservation.

Broken Lance is a hobby "micropublishing" business, sort of like a micro brewery except it doesn't smell as good. If I get laid off it will become a real business, real fast.

Hope you enjoy.
