Well, I returned from my trip.
Vicksburg was my first stop, and I spent about 2 days going thru the Park. It was awesome. The NPS has made great progress in removing Kudzu, and other vegetation from a lot of the areas. Some of the deepest gullies I have ever seen. I got a local to tell me where some of the "caves" were located, but I never did find one.(Don't know if I would have tried to look at one anyway, as they are located on private property, and I don't want to go to jail )

Next stop was Corinth, MS, I toured what little was left of the batteries, and paid my respects at the grave of Col. William Rogers, CSA.

Went to Shiloh, and it was a sobering experience. I walked the entire length of the field from the Confederate Batteries to the Union position at the Hornet's Nest. That would be a LONG walk under fire. I think I might have offended a Park Ranger, when I asked why the example of the Confederate Uniform was a Richmond Depot Jacket. He was not impressed. The Bloody Pool was almost dry, but again, it was sobering to stand on the ground, where so many died.

That afternoon, drove to Ft. Donelson, one of the best preserved parks I have ever seen. Wanted to visit Ft. Henry, but I was told that most of it is underwater, and what IS left is fairly inaccessible.

Overall, it was a great trip. I wouold post pictures, but I haven't figured out how yet

Bill:

Thanks, yes, indeed I did. My dad and I covered 1300 miles in 4 days.  I am going to post pictures soon.

Thanks for sharing.  It sounds like a great trip.  Undre a separate post I place my own trip to Andersonville (which was a very moving experience), Chickamauga, Kenesaw Mountain, Lookout Mountain and Missionary Ridge in Chattanooga.
