This was on today's cover of the USA Today. I figured I'd share it since many of us will be in Gettysburg for the anniversary this weekend. http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2007-11-15-gettysburg-images_N.htm?loc=interstitialskip Enjoy! Bob Bowser

Sorry, I didn't realize. Are they recent additions to the collection or is the article just being misleading? I couldn't access the site to check myself. Thanks, Bob Bowser

Isn't the point though that the pictures have been available, but no one noticed until now, that one of the figures in the crowd may be Lincoln? Hank Trent hanktrent@voyager.net |

Hank, great point! I apologize. I missed the point of the article. I thought that they discovered new photos at the Library of Congress, not that they spotted Lincoln in an existing image. The more that I think about it, I have seen these pictures before. Quite a few times actually. I was more focused on the enlarged images than I was the whole photo on the article website. I've never attempted to magnify the crowd in the photo to see who was in the background. It seems like it would be extremely difficult to spot Lincoln in that large crowd from that distance. I guess from a photographers stand point it would make sense to try and photograph the speakers stand, but the size of the crowd would make it difficult to get close enough for a shot that would make it easy to identify the President. I've always been more focused and amazed on how open the terrain on Cemetery Hill actually was than the people standing in the background. Thanks, Bob Bowser

In that "new" photo of Lincoln there seems to be a flag pole with no flag on it. I wonder what that's about?
