For those of us who do reenacting and have been doing it for awhile how have things changed. I live in Kentucky I and have been as far south as Miss. and north into Ill. and Ind. I have been in Artillery from day one. I own two cannons and at one time a covered wagon which I would take as well. I have always been a mainstreamer, even though in the early years I did not know what the CPH,Progressive, or whatever the name of the month is for what ever level. One need only to look at the direction of events and the people running them to see the change. Not all events, but Gettysburg 1 or 2 this year. Perryville 145th and the
the former 1st. Confederate Divison (AoT). Has the new direction or in some cases leadership off various organization, been good for the average reenactor? Posting by anyone not in agreement with their vision is met with what can only be called rude and childish behavior. We all do this I'd like to think for the right reasons even if everyone does not do it on the same level.
Uniforms not right, or this is not historical correct. One of the other forums had a question about wearing friction primers on hats. I have bought at least a thousand of them in my time in the hobby. I wear two on my hat. I have seen some artillerist have a ton of them on thiers. I considered it personal choice, or like I stated unit choice if they allowed it. Their response by various forum member including Staff of the AoT treated me with childish behavior. Has this hobby got to the point that a few will tell the rest of us how dress, act and what to do at every level including something as personal as a primer wire on a hat.
Did I miss something or is this turning into something other than a hobby for most of us. I won't go to events run by AoT, or Perryville anymore, not because they are doing anything wrong but there vision of the hobby and mine are different. Is my vision wrong I like to think I do a few things right. But what good comes for these individuals that berate anyone who as a different veiw. I'm going to Gettysburg GAC, fine I know my level and those that want to go to Andersburg fine. But those and there are many who's vision I think at times would be better served if manners or consideration of others was taken into account. I realize my spelling at times isn't what it should be. But using that to run me down to make me look like idot. How does that help the hobby. This forum has a few more manners than others. How has the Leadership of the various groups in recent years helped the hobby for the few at the expense of many. Mega events in the West are a thing of the past. Gettysburg with two at the same time is the divide in the East. Mods. even here allow it to be posted in the wrong month. Has this hobby got to a point where its either friend or foe. Its a hobby folks not a life style. Its gotten to the point nobodys laughing any more.
Always
