Folks, for some time now, this forum seems to be running really slow. Some days it is fine, but most days it's not. At least for me and my moderators. You need to realize this is a free forum and I have no control over the servers at AceBoard. Other AceBoard forums are having the same problems. When I asked about this problem, I was given some kind of answer about dual servers with one fast and one slow. It's a luck of the draw to whichever you log in to. I have entertained the thought of moving us to a new host, but want one that can provide the things we need to operate the way we have been, or even better. Any free forum providers suggestions are welcome. I know a good number of them out there already. It would be nice if this one would just run like it use to. Anyone not having problems?

Thanks Hank. Like I said, some days I'm fast, some days I'm slow. I need the feedback. I don't want to venture into something that may be specific to certain users.

Ken...for what its worth Ive experienced both the slow and what I consider the regular speed here. I use Road Runner as my connection. Kent Dorr - Ohio |

I get a mix and match with service on here. Sometimes it pops up in a blink and sometimes it takes 5-10 seconds to bring up the whole page or upload a message. I am on DSL. It doesn't really bother me that bad. I like this forum and the set up, while moving to a new board might solve some problem I think it would be a pain in the butt.

Ken I have seen the fast and the slow connections, but it hasn't bothered me much in regards to the slow. I have noticed it as more slow when I am at work than at home (T3 vs FIOS).

Ken: It took 35 seconds to log on just now with high-speed cable internet. Some days, it's instantaneous. Still, if you remember the earlier days of dial-up, that's lighting fast!! FWIW, in the time it took me to edit this, everything is now going at light speed. Funny. --Last edited by mstuart on 2008-03-20 15:32:56 --

I've seen the slow side as well as the quick. For what it's worth, I'm on a cable modem.

Ken, Ditto what Hank said. It works just fine the way it is for me, too.

I think it may just be a "how much traffic is in th pipeline issue." I have way more fast days than slow. Maybe it's an age thing...Over to you Bill.

Grumpy, Funny you should say that. I just got a fancy new computer and the site has been loading pretty quick. Now, if I could just get the feeling for the space bar on my new keyboard, maybeIcouldstoprunningallmywordstogether.

Bill, Sooner or later you'll get used to not slapping that carriage return handle at the end of each line. (Ducks and runs for cover.)

I think I will let things be for now. But rest assured, I do have a back up plan!

A backup plan? Does it involve a jetpack, cause that would be cool. Yea I don't have much to do today.

Speaking of fancy new computers, do any of you that have laptops actually use that finger-thingy instead of an honest-to-goodness mouse? No......I don't have much to do tonight, either.

Charles, I do indeed remember using a manual typewriter. I was hell on wheels with two index fingers. I remember "Whiteout", carbon paper and "Buck Slips". I can also remember when the IBM "Selectric" typewriter was the ultimate in technology and computers took up an entire room. I remember when Xerox introduced the "914" Copier and you had to be specially trained to operate and maintain the machine. The things I remember are truly scary!

Ah Bill, you bring back many memories...some of them pleasant. Manual typerwriters, carbon paper, ditto machines, and until about 1964 we still had an outdoor privy!

Mark, I'm on the road 5 days a week and often have to pullout the laptop to do something. I generally use the touch pad, but I also occasionally use the little joystick in the middle of the keyboard.

Bill, you know what stunk in the Army? When I was a combat engineer and we had a light schedule, somehow I ended up assisting admin types with insurance forms and such because I could type. Yep, that was twenty years ago or more and we used the old Army issue type writers. If you made a mistake on a kids form, you had to start all over. All those DD forms and such. Yuk!
