I saw this over on the AC forum and thought it was pretty neat.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a3G3C4CCrHc

It is a game show clip from the 1950's and the guest is a person who witnessed the shooting of Lincoln on April 14th.

You think? 1865 - 1900 = 35 years. 1900 to 1950 = 50 years. Let's say the person had to be 10 to comprehend what they saw. that's 95 years old at a minimum. Mr Seymore says he's 96. One of the folks on the panel says "If I do the math, that makes him born in 1860." So, he was at most 5. I don't remember much from when I was 5 but, I guess it's possible. The thing is, I remember watching that show, not that particular show, on a black and white TV on a fairly regular basis. I saw Kennedy shot on TV when I was in 1st grade. They sent us all home from school.  Over to you Bill...

As I recall, Mr. Seymore said he was 5 yrs. old at the time, and the show is from 1956.  That's 91 years, which makes him 96 yrs. old at the time of the show.  From the way he spoke, he did not comprehend what had just happen, but was more concerned for "the man who fell out of the box", which he actually witnessed and could understand at that age.

Similar to you, I distinctly remember my 3rd grade teacher telling us that President Kennedy had been shot.  As I recall, my main thought at the time was why anyone would want to do something like that.

My God,  smile/eek.gif

You're all kids. I was a junior in high school when Kennedy was shot. They never said a word and I didn't know anything had happened until we got out of class at the end of the day.

Bill, Maybe they were in Catholic School like I was. I remember coming home and finding both Mom and Dad crying like I had never seen.

An announcement was made on the schools’ public address system that President Kennedy had been shot.  I was in the eleventh grade and it was a public school.

Well I am not old enough to remember Kennedy being shot.  And I don't think I paid enough attention when Reagan was shot (only 6 at the time), but I recall being in 5th Grade science class when the Challenger exploded.  We were watching it live on tv during class.

Hey Greg,

Why not just wait for the next event, to stick a bayonet in my back? It wouldn't hurt any more than this post!

As I was packing for this weekend's trip to Virginia, I was complaining to Sandy about one blanket, no tent, and the chance of rain. She quickly shut me up with this comment, "Well, nobody is making you go and you've been complaining about being too old for years." She's right!

Being old is not really the problem……… but scheduled maintenance is scheduled at more frequent intervals.

For some of us it's the lack of scheduled maintenance.

It's funny how we older types remember when JFK was killed. I was in the emergency room at our local hospital having a cast removed. I had crashed my bike on my 6th Bday in Oct. and broke my arm. I remember a nurse rushing in telling the sad news.

Oddly, I can't remember what I had for supper 2 days ago
