Beauvoir, in Biloxi, MS, has scheduled its reopening for the third of June. I’m planning on going, but strictly as a spectator. The participants will have to stand out there until the last molecule of air has been expended from the last set of lungs and there will be boocoodles of lungs with air to spare.

The third of June falls on a Tuesday. No doubt there would be more people show up for this occasion if it had been scheduled on a weekend. However, the Beauvoir movers and shakers decided to schedule the reopening to coincide with Jefferson Davis’ 200th birthday.

In celebration of Jefferson Davis' 200th birthday we will be reopening on Saturday, the **. Special events to commerate this event will be held all week.

If I could think of it, so could someone else. Duh.

I don’t think it is a stretch of the imagination to see more relevance in Beauvoir reopening on Jefferson Davis’ birthday than blatant commercialism.
