This is an article just in this Sunday's Inquirer. It will be interesting to see what happens.

This sort of thing is happening more and more. As a public historian I see these notifications every week but rarely with a collection as important as this one.

I'm not sure what the better solution is, to leave everything in proper storage until a new venue can be found locally, or to ship it all to Richmond where it will still be exhibited.

The only thing I'd hate to see is to have everything deaccessioned and put on the auction block. It's a very real possibility. It would be a shame to have Davis's jacket go to a private collector somewhere and be lost as a public resource.

I hope the collection is being kept in proper storage.

Somehow, it doesn't seem right to display a collection at the MOC that was donated by Union Officers.

With all the money that is thrown around for various "pork barrel" projects you would think that a state with such a treasured military history and the "birthplace of freedom" that Rendell and his cohorts in the capital would see this as an important link to our past.

While the Declaration of Independence may not have been signed there Pennsylvanians contributed signifcantly to our freedoms dating back to the Revolution, serving as a turning point in the CW with Gettysburg.

How sad.  I too hope that somehow that everything is being stored appropriately and can be preserved for the public rather than perhaps falling into private hands either legitamately or otherwise.

Maybe the museum out in Harrisburg would be happy to display it while Philly figures out what it wants to do.
