Was in Richmond over the weekend and the Tredegar Iron Works aka The American Civil War Center was only a few block saway form the hotel.

I was told it opened in 2006 and was very pleased with the center. Some artifacts so it is not for the fellow looking to see lots of artifacts. They have 4 films about 8-10 minutes each on What Caused the War, The Emancipation Proclamation, 1863 The War Comes Home and Legacy and Memory. I thought the films were very well done and presented all the facts evenly especially on what caused the war. It is a good place to take your children to help them understand better about the war and enjoyable for the buff just to see something different.

After the center went over to the NPS part of the grounds and enjoyed their computer overview of various battles aorund Richmond. I like the little dots etc showing movements and then firing on each other. Gives a good look at the tactics.

Overall I would recommend a stop at the Tredegar Iron Works if in the Richmond Area.
