I am going to the one battefield I've always wanted to see and that is Vicksburg.  My Mess is attending the Life on the Line event in June, and we are very excited about it.  Does anyone have any "must see" sights that we just have to visit?  Anyone else going to the event?  We are portraying the 56th Ohio.  Any word about these chaps?  Anything about the place would be appreciated!

Make a point to stop by the Old Courthouse Museum.  This building is virtually unchanged from the Civil War era.  It is seen in a good number of Vicksburg images.  The contents of the museum are interesting but the building itself has been nicely preserved.

There are lots of old homes in the Vicksburg area.  If you have time to spare and want an intriguing tour of one of these older homes covering quite a span of time take a look at McRaven.  If you have any curiosity about ghosts McRaven is supposedly blessed with an abundance of such.

Ken,

Take at least an hour to visit the USS Cairo and the exhibit in the museum beside it. If you are interested in small, common, items used by sailors and soldiers of the time, then the scads of items in the musuem cases will be of great benefit.
