I took this message off Sazabo's Forum:

It is with much regret that the organizers of the "After the Battle: Fredericksburg" event, slated for October 26 - 28, 2007 must announce the postponement of the event.

The new date for the event is the weekend of November 14 - 16, 2008.

The primary reason for the postponement is the recent drought conditions in central Virginia and the need for the farmer on the property to maximize his income this year. He is leasing this sacred ground from the family that has held it since the war, and we want to allow him a chance to support his family as best he can.

Several improvements will take place on the property in early 2008, which will improve the participants' experience at the event.

All of you who registered will receive a full refund of your registration fee in early September.

Again, we apologize to those who had planned on attending, but we hope you will attend in November 2008. Feel free to contact me at dustyswb@verizon.net with any questions.

Even though I was not going it is too bad as it would have been a good event. You just cannot control the weather.

Serves them right, scheduling it the weekend before Fort Branch...

Um, just kidding.  I'd registered and was really looking forward to the experience.  Did you know that New Jersey paid their troops an extra $2 a month, plus $6 monthly to their families?  On the bright side, this gives me another year to find out what the relevant township bounties were and to study Noah's medical dictionary.  Sucks, though -- lot of people I was looking forward to seeing.

There won't be any crops in the fields. LOL. I think the best place or person to ask would be Dusty, Kevin or Charles on the AC forum. I'd guess it has something to do with the farm itself but, that's just a guess. The other improvement is we won't have to go to Rememberance Day. I'd guess that's the weekend neareast to the 21st of November, which would be a huge plus.

Bill,

On the aesthetic side, the powerlines are scheduled to be buried during the next year, and the large, white tarped, hay storage area will be relocated to another part of the property rather than right in front of Noah Briggs' barn. How large is large? Well, you remember those drive in theater screens as a young man....

I saw a couple of minor things that could be whipped into shape during a work day. Nothing huge, but it goes back to managing fire risks, and redistributing a few pieces of obsolete agricultural equipment. It's a pretty site, and the CWPT DVD with an aerial view is a very nice item, and a donation to pay off this land will get you one.

As you've read on the OTB Forum, the drought down this way has been incredibly rough for both forage and for feed corn. The professionals talk about leaf curl, and I'm here to tell you they look more like yucca plants than a stand of corn. The soybeans on that property were stunted, to say the least, but I'm hoping the rain over the past week will at least help that late crop. Crop insurance covers Mother Nature, but doesn't cover reenactor damage, so there you have it.

Additionally, his 2008 crop rotation will allow us to do some things we couldn't do this year, and that will be very nice.

With it being rescheduled, I might be able to put this one on the calander for next year.

Looking at the requirements, I seem to have more of the confederate items minus the defarbed musket.  Would that be a huge issue?

Greg,

Look at it this way, you have approximately 14 months to upgrade the appearance of your musket, and that is something which carries over for any event you attend.
