I see lots of discussion and posting for events along the east coast. But none for the midwest, and if there is, it is very few.
Here in Michigan we have reenactments every couple of weeks.  This weekend is one of the biggest in the midwest-Jackson Michigan. undoubtably 99.9% of ours are mainstreamers, and one or 2  are C/P/H.  Is anything above the Ohio river and east of the Alleghanies the forgotten land??
Are we the poor stepchildren of reenacting?

Chris,

Any events that don't take place in the States where the actual battles were fought tend to get short shift. There is another fact of life, people who participate in the more authentic events seem to spend more time on the forums and tend to discuss the events they attend.

We actively promote people who participate in mainstream events to post on this forum and frankly, I wish more would do so. If you'll notice, we don't put up with the "Them versus Us" battles that seem to be a fixture on some of the other forums.

This is a different kind of us versus them  Everyone is yelling for us to come participate in the south or the east, but for some reason there isn't return in kind.  If you wish for us to make that big 8-14 hour drive east to west. come west once in a while-
And like the feller says don't forget the trans- missippi.  Don't forget there were actual battles in Ka. and Mo. to name a couple.
It just seems like if it isn't south or east it ain't happening.

We went to Jackson last year.  Let's just say it wasn't memorable in the right ways.  Some royal snafu'ing, along with the entire battalion being marched to sutler row and "ordered" to shop.  Then there was the undressed dress parade....

We didn't vote to return this year.

Jackson is a pain in the posterior.  Most midwesterners use it for shopping. And I know who you are talking about-- Dave Shackelford of the Cumberland guard- Not the most loved commander in the midwest.  He has the attitudenals.  When I started goin to Jackson there were almost 4 full battaions- now he is lucky to field 2 small ones.  Figure it out for your self.  Enough said about this event.

Charles,

As long as you say "in my opinion" you are going to the wrong events.

If you have the cash for gas, and can pay me for the time off for alll those east coast events then I would be there.  But until that time comes I have to take advantage of what events are available to me in my imediate area.

Cris,

It does go both ways. There are a number of events I'd love to attend on the far side of the mountains, but gas is no cheaper going from east to west and there are only so many vacation days. Sometimes, it gets to be a choice. I can attend an event in Maryland or Virginia, burn one tank of gas and use one vacation day. Or I can attend an event in Tennessee, burn up three tanks of gas and use up three vacation days.
