I hope Marta is his mare or cow, and not his wife. Otherwise, that's way too much information. :-) Hank Trent hanktrent@voyager.net |

Hank, Yes, Marta is a shaggy, long haired, bovine, and one of those sundry conservation breeds at that. Western NY timing is a little different than down here. Evidently this is the last heat where the timing allows the calf to be born outside the worst of the fly season up there. Having had some experiences with their clouds of black flies, I can readily understand this. As an aside, I saw some shocked corn last week. I'll probably see some more as I go through the Susquehanna Amish area, but such a joyful harvest view is getting rarer and rarer these days.

I don't know about the shocked corn. The corn here in South/Centeral Pennsyltuckey is still pretty darn green. We haven't had any nights below 60 yet.
| GrumpyDave Towsen A gutta percha sack coat and forage cap wouldn't keep you dry If I'm attending an event. |

Grumpy, Here we are two hours south of you, and we've had a number of nights with the lows in the mid-30s. If the wrinkles on some of the peppers were any indication, we may have had a very light frost. Local producers are still cutting late corn planted for silage, and one of the soybean fields near Jefferson was baled into round bales. I don't recall seeing that in this area before, but that's an indication as to what forage prices are going to be hitting in late winter. One of these days, I'll chalk off a weekend to visit that Somerset museum Scott is running to work with him and some of that interesting late 1800s farm equipment. The pics and stories have been pretty darn good.
