I just got off the phone with a fellow gun owner. GAC will have the cannons there. 100 is well within reach. I'm taking 50lbs of powder, will it be enough? I just hope the other branches show up in numbers. Mr. Anders event being so close only time will tell.

Don't know how much powder you burn in one shot, but there is a potential for 7 different engagements during the course of the weekend (a Thursday evening "tactical" action is not on the schedule on the website), although I don't know that they would use every gun for each one, particularly the cav engagements on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

As an FYI, all 100 slots for guns are filled. Whether they all show up will be a different story.....

Doug, I wonder how many of the people going to Chris' event would have gone to GAC anyway?  My feeling is not many.  I applaud Mr. Anders for giving those who want to honor the men who fought at Gettysburg a chance to do so in a smaller more controlled setting.  Those who wish to attend both, still have that opportunity, and some just might do that.

This coming year we have an 1888 event in New Jersey, and then we'll drive through our home state of Ohio on our way to Missouri the following week.  If people want to do something they'll find a way.  Let's stop trying to put down other people's efforts, that's not what this forum is about.

Mrs. Trent

I'm not putting down Mr. Anders event, just stating a fact. I don't consider 4000 small.

As I understand it AHT and GAC are catering to different wants and needs, and it's for each individual to decide which one (or if both) will fit their individual needs.  As I said in my previous post, most of the attendees of either event probably wouldn't have gone to the other anyway.

Neither fit my personal needs in the hobby, so I have no dog in the fight, and will be staying home that weekend.  But I don't want to see another fight like War on the James and TAG.  So again, let's try to keep the two sides separate.

Thanks! Merry Xmas everyone!

Greg

7 engagements--50 lbs may not be enough. In fact I know it won't be enough if cannons are used in each one. Looks like the price of poker just went up. Thanks for the info.

One thing to keep in mind about the GAC event. Remember what happend last time we had a wet "early Summer" here in centeral PA? The event site is the same. Anyway, I wish you all the best but, somewhere in the back of your travel plans/vacation scheduling folder, make sure you write a little "what if" plan, just in case. I'd hate to see ANYONE lose money or vacation time. And, keep your eye on the long range weather forcast for the 17325 ZIP code.

A gutta percha sack coat and forage cap wouldn't keep you dry If I'm attending an event.

A quick trip to the library and a glance at a Farmers' Almanac may be a good indicator.  I'll be doing that for Andersburg.

Weather the great unknown. We can all hope for the best. GAC or Andersburg. Rain a little ok rain a lot would ruin the event for those of us traveling a long distance. Keep hope alive.

AHT is full go, weather or not.  That was a keystone of the deal- would not ever want to cost folks flights, or more money or time because I did not negotiate properly.

Just checked the Farmer's Almanac:  The hottest part of the summer will include late June.  There's also expected to have more rain over the summer than normal, as well.

Only time will tell...

We will be at both events, so heres hoping we dont spend 9 days camping in wet rain!  But I too had checked the Farmers Almanac, so hopefully only a few rain showers that are liveable.

Tom -

AHT is "At High Tide," which is considered the more authentic of the two Gettysburg events this year. GAC is the Gettysburg Anniversary Committee's version a week later.

Pick your poison.

Greg...thanks for the explanation.  I appreciate it as I want to be able to learn many of the achronisms that I run across so that I can both understand and be conversant about.
