Folks, Just got back from a weekend living history in Atlanta to commemorate the 145th anniversary of that campaign. It was held in a small park in a residential neighborhood where part of the fighting took place on the east side of the city. I was there with my Armory Guards bretheren portraying the 66th GA company A of which our Captain Tripp Corbin was the descendant of the Captain of the 66th and carried his ancestors sabre. The 39th Ohio made up the Federal contingency and was made up of members of Jim Butler's SCAR and Greg Deese's Tramp Brigade. There was also an artillery piece from the 9th GA artillery and a refugee camp whose members will have to forgive me for I know not where they were from. Part of the beauty of this event was the section of defenses built to represent the defenses the Federals had to overcome during tha campaign and each group took turns doing drill and firing demonstrations. Between demos, we performed fatigue duties which consisted primarily of building on the the fortifications, inspections, cooking, etc. Pictures of the event can be found here: http://projects.ajc.com/gallery/view/metro/civilwar-renact-071909/ | |||
