Better read this:

http://military-historians.org/company/journal/confederate/confederate-1.htm

This is fairly old, however, it also seems to be the ONLY/BEST research available at this time. If anyone has anything else PLEASE share it with us.

Here is an article about should you jacket match your trousers as a Confederate.  It also address light vs dark clothes.

The Summer 2006 issue of "The Watchdog" reviewed a book called "Cadet Gray and Butternut Brown: Notes on Confederate Uniforms". The review stated that "These hundred pages provide an excellent foundation for a better inderstanding of Confederate uniforms".

It is available from Thomas Publication, PO Box 3032, Gettysburg, PA 17325, for $16.95, plus shipping.

While not jacket related, Matt Caldwell put together a nice webpage of photos with some period hair / facial hair photos.

That book, "Cadet Gray and Butternut Brown" got an outstanding review in this month's "Civil War News". It looks like I'll be adding another book to the collection!

I sure hope this book doesn't tell me that my entire collection of Confederate uniforms is completly wrong and totally Farby! Going through the various phases of Confederate authenticity has been tough on the bank account!   smile/hapface01.gif

I was down at Thomas Publishing yesterday and got a copy of Cadet Gray and Butternut Brown.  Looks pretty good.  I'll read some when I get to spend tomorrow morning in a Philadelphia, government waiting room while my wife gets interviewed and tested for her US citizenship.  It was a fun drive to Philly today, that I can tell you!

John, while not confederate jacket related, while you are in town take the aspiring US citizen to Philly's version of Chinatown. While only a couple of blocks in size, the place is clean, friendly, and has a number of good shops, grocery stores, and eateries. It's not Toronto, but definitely a "must do" when we head up that way.

Back to warp and weft....

I just finished reading "Cadet Gray and Butternut Brown". I'm going to write up a bit of a review in the "Clothing and Equipment" folder.
