On the Mississippi Gulf Coast, within sight of one of the largerst refineries in the country, we are still at $1.99.

In the Philadelphia area, gas is selling for around $2.25 per gallon. I was down in Fredericksburg, VA last weekend and gas was $1.83.

Curtis, have you considerd just sticking a hose in one of those big refinery tanks and siphoning out a tank full?

I filled up yesterday, $1.87.9 here in centeral PA, most everywhere. Exxon and Shell are about a dime higher Exxon needs to beat their profit record, I'm sure.

Unless gas prices turn around by next Spring, people are going to have to come up with another excuse for not attending events!

Gas was $1.59 in Fredericksburg yesterday, but mostly in the $1.69 to $1.79 range from what I saw. Poor old Southern States was still hawking at $2.12.  Ouch.

The selling of the gear thing may be true if the Reenactor Fire Sale on the AC Forum has been any indication of the exodus from the hobby. Used gear has been a heck of a bargain of late.

Bill, the keyboard kampaigner excuse book will fall back to the samo-samo batch of lame excuses.

This works in the favor of some of the young bucks waiting in the wings because now they can get quality gear at prices they can afford without breaking their or their parent's banks.

Greg,

This could be true, but a careful eye will note the trend has been the young bucks doing the selling, and I'm not sure how many newbies have the ability to discerne quality from crapola when it comes to gear.  Some do get lucky.

Hopefully the young guys have someone who has been around to help them do the shopping.  I am helping 2 new guys in my group with this.

But that isn't always the case.. hopefully they would have the sense to go to a site (AC or here) that monitors what is being sold so that the buyer can be a little more comfortable with their purchase.

Ken,

Don't jinx it.  smile/hapface01.gif

Under a buck a gallon, I'll think I'm 30 again.

I'll also be getting those drums out of the tool barn and making a little trip.  Daddy still has a little hand pump.

  Hallo!

It is just a Jedi Mind Trick...

We once howled when gas first hit $1.50 a gallon... now we celebrate $1.50 as a bargain.  (One advantage to a World Wide Recession and a national Recession/Depression.)

There's a station on the way to the store that went out of business a couple years ago, but their big price sign is still up, unchanged from when they were last open and selling gas at what was the going rate at that time, $2.60 a gallon.

When gas prices rose, for a while we joked that their gas sure was sure cheap, and that must be why they were closed, because they ran out.

Now we joke that their gas sure is expensive, and that must be why they closed, because nobody would buy it.

According to this chart of inflation-adjusted gas prices, anything between $1.50 and $2.00 right now is pretty good:

  Hallo!

The local station I buy from barely survived a different problem.
After having gone to the "Quickie Mart" concept because the smokes, beer, and snacks do better profit-wise than the sale of gas (with a 1-5 cent per gallon profit)...
His supplier tried to pull a fast one and demand a contract to minimimze the "low" fluctations and $$$ loss.  The problem was, that the gas supplier wanted a $7 million contract.
