So, how many of you are attending At High Tide and/or the GAC 145th. Gettysburg events?  smile/indecis.gif

I'm doing both. I'm on Chris Ander's Staff for AHT. I'll be attending the GAC event as the Commander of the First Battalion, ANV.   smile/tracker.gif

Looks to be shaping up that way.

Perryville On the Farm, then stay over a week for Women On the Frontier(18th Century), then start heading towards At High Tide.  Depending on what works out, I may stay over for GAC, and join a caravan headed back for the Deep South.

It just depends on how many weeks of tent sleeping I can stand.......

I'll be at AHT. Currently helping Jim Moffet set up the "Western Federal Infantry" and the Western Brigade. I will be serving with the Western Brigade at the event though.

I will be at AHT but not going back for GAC.  Can only get so many kitchen passes that close together.

We'll be at the GAC event. They're doing the East Cavalry Field action. Gotta do that at least once.

Was planning to attend GAC but now a lot of our unit is pulling out due to the price of diesel.  I am hoping that at least a few will still go with me.  I really do not want to haul a horse all the way from Texas by myself.  It gets a little expensive!  I might be able to make up some of the cost if I load up with Yuengling to bring back.  Can't get it out here and everyone I have shared it with has loved it, all the types I have brought back.  http://www.aceboard.net/kator/smyley3.abgif

Bill... We might just have some spare room in our cooler if you need We will also be in the camp of convenience.. just look for all the children!

We will be at both AHT and GAC. My bday is July 3rd and I wanted to be in Gettysburg for it.

Anyone needing meals at either, let me know! Ill have extras and gladly accept tips lol.

Mrs. Lawson.. I know what you mean about tent camping. I think 10 days is going to be enough for us. Hopefully we can hide the air mattress, otherwise my back is going to kill me and Im going to need a forklift to get me up off the ground by the end of the week!

Dulcie:

I don't know about anyone else's definition, but after 10 days in a tent with 4 kids, I don't care what you sleep on or how many coolers you have......you're a campaigner!!!!!!!!!! http://www.aceboard.net/kator/smiley14.abgif

Taking the summer off and planning to do both.

At High Tide will be something of a new experieince for me because neither my unit nor our parent unit will be attending.  I'll be falling in with strangers.  It will be interesting to see the differences.

Not enough vacation to do both so I'm going with my origial unit to GAC. ANYONE there, please try to find me; I'll be with the confedearate contingency. Ask for the dept. of the gulf and I'll be in that area. I really like meeting folks at events.

Let me amplify my I'm doin gboth answer.  I'm going to both not because I think one is 'better' than the other.

I'm going to both because I expect to get different experiences at each.

AHT is in my mind what you would call a progressive mainstream event.  By that I mean that there regs are a little tighter than your average mainstream event and are sure to be enforced.  Based on people I know who attended SS in 2007, I expect the scenarios to be well scrïpted and realistic.  SO from this event I am looking for a more intimate experience, especially with the non-spectator scenarios.

GAC is a more relaxed event.  I expect to see some farbisms, some pretty farby.  I expect to see a 'lady' soldier or two.  And I expect that most things out side the control of my officers will have some element of FUBAR to them.  That's just the nature of the beast, trying to control 10,000 people who are highly independent and not real soldiers.  That being said I don't expect to be on the filed too often where there will be 10,000 people reenacting ONE battle.  Lets face it, as many problems as there will undoubtably be this is the closest I'll every get to being able to really imagine from my vantage point as a private what a really CW battle might have looked like when I look right and left and all I can see is a line of blue and I look across the field and it seems like the whole world is wearing butternut.  All it is going to take is a little imagination.

But it is going to be a lot easier to imagine than when there are only 100 guys on either side of me and only 200 across the field.

Have you set which strangers you'll be falling in with during AHT?  Plenty of room in the Army of the Ohio.

Kevin will also need someone to fall in with as no one from our unit will be at AHT (okay they wont be at GAC either..but we have that one covered).  He will be staying in the camp of convenience at night... but will be ready with rifle ready to go in the morning! Anything to shoot his rifle lol.

Bernard:

I had some email correspondence with the National Commander and he apparently is going to assign the "unattached" to balance out the larger units that are enlisting enmass.

While the MG is not going as a unit there will be other MG members there.  He indicated that he would probably lump us all together and assign us enamss.  But while I know someother MG members by sight the vast majority are starngers to me.

Besides what would you westerners do with an AoP dandy?

Thanks for the invite.

Laugh uproariously at you.  ;)
Then we'd turn you into a "real sojer".

The 30th OVI fought in Western VA, with John Pope at 2nd Manassas, and with McClellan at South Mountain and Antietam.  It was only afterwards that we headed out to the Western Theatre.
