During the latter half of the year we have three occasions in which two events are scheduled on the same weekend.  The first of that three was this previous weekend in which two Battle of Mobile Bay commemorative type activities were hosted literally within sight of each other.  One of these was at Ft. Gaines, on Dauphin Island, AL, and the other at Ft, Morgan, on the opposite side of the mouth of Mobile Bay.  On a clear day, a person can stand on the walls of Ft. Gaines and easily see Ft. Morgan and vice versa.  There are two more weekends where conflicts exist, but not as close together as those two competing forts.

This post is a request for strategies and/or recommendations the dwindling number of Civil War reenactors in this area could use to convince event hosts these conflicts are counter productive to the hobby.

Curtis,

I keep trying to post a response, but as I type it, it doesn't sound how I want it too..

Part of it is that some of the discussion I think occurred in the thread "Too many events" in this same folder.

I will try to word the rest of my response so that I can put it out there.

It's only a conflict if you wanted to go to both.
Otherwise, there is no conflict.

Now, if you're talking about one event drawing people away from the other, or the two being so diluted within the pool of potential participants that neither can do what it intended to do, that's another story.

The answer to that is to declare a Hobby Dictator who determines who goes to what events, and everyone complies.

  Hallo!

 A valid and worthwhile question...

 But IMHO...

It is a Zen thing, like the sound of one hand clapping.

Meaning, over the past few years, we have posed and discussed the problem of "Event Deconfliction" many times, at great length, with great concern/passion/emotion, and with no doable or effective answer(s).

 And then the cycle repeats.

One of the Forlorn Hopes of boards and fora was once thought to be that with greater instant communications, event hosts and sponsors could cross-reference their Camp Chase Gazette listings and on-line schedules to avoid conflict in scheduling.

Nope... it has not happeend yet (nor will it).

Anyone can have an event, and they do.

For what it's worth. There are two groups working very hard to reduce the conflicts during the 150th. cycle of events. Only time will tell if they are successful, or not.
