Chase,

That photo was taken at the Neshaminy event. The pink mist you see in the background is the sun shining through the smoke. I'm the Confederate Commander for the event. The photo was taken while they played "Taps" at the end of a scenario.

The Neshaminy web site has been updated to include the Event Schedule and information for Confederate participants. The site can be reached at: www.28thpvi.org

The event is scheduled for April 25-27, 2008. The scenarios this year are two separate Confederate attacks on the Federal positions on May 3, 1863, the day after Jackson's flank attack, during the Chancellorville campaign. On Saturday we are doing the attack on Berry's and Hay's Brigades. On Sunday the Confederate will attack the Federal positions in front of the Chacellor's House. There will be a section of artillery captured and than recaptured by the Federals. As always, there will be unscrïpted tacticals on both Saturday and Sunday.

The early registration fee is only $7.00. There are registration forms on the web site. In the sprit of the Election Year, register early and register often!

Remember, this event is put on by Reenactors for Reenactors and all proceeds go toward historic preservation.

This event is always afterwards, described as first rate. I hpoe this year is no exception. Bill, I'd like to hear how you think the price of gas has affected your attendence; as you are pretty close to the source. A rule of thumb I've always herd is there's about 25% or so that register and no-show. Do you think you could let us know if your total registration rate was up or down and then, the amount of no-shows you had?

At the events we attend together, these numbers are really easy to caculate. Take Glendale-Malvern Hill for example. There's 44 Federals registered in my company. Fairly normal for this type of living history. The Sergeant(s)fill out their roll books before the event and Saturday morning at revelle(sp) we know who didn't show up.

Ken,

You'll notice we have Kettle Corn, but no Funnel Cakes. I've always wanted a Funnel Cake Vendor. I think it's written in stone somewhere that every Mainstream event should have Funnel Cake available to the troops.

Grumpy,

Yeah, me more than you!  smile/eek.gif

I discussed the decline in registration over on the Mainstream Folder, in the "Gas-Next Year" Thread.

Unlike the events you and I do together, Neshaminy usually gets a lot of walk-ons. Depending on the weather, the walk-ons will usually exceed the registration no-shows. Interesting, if you register before April 1st. the fee is only $7.00 dollars, while walk-ons pay $15.00 dollars. Last year, it didn't seem to make any difference. We had more walk-ons than usual.

Personnel accountability is really no different, only the numbers are bigger. I'll get morning reports from the various battalions, which get put together into a brigade report by my Staff. I guess the big difference is you can't worry about names. I will never know exactly who attended the event, but I will know how many people attended from the various organizations.

Like you, I will be very interested in how participation holds up this year.

Not sure if you have posted this yet, but any ideas on how much was raised for preservation this year?

I figure you guys are still going over the books and paying everything off, but didn't know if there was a rough estimate yet.
