Boys, It's time to register. There is a substantial increase in the registration fee on April 1st. Besides; who wouldn't want to be in my company?

The registration form isn't hard to find. If I could find it, even a blind squirrel could find it.

Grumpy,

Off hand, I'd say one of the guys who'll be shooting at your company. If it's cold, just look for the guy doing the Clint Eastwood impression.  smile/!moon.gif

Bill, ever in search of indigo targets of opportunity exclaims: "Where are all the Yankees?"  smile/hapface01.gif

My earlier post evaporated, so I'll try once again. The event design is rather modest, and this is going to be hard to believe, but the 3:1 reb:fed ratio was right about spot-on as of the last report from the event registrar. That being said, folks who want to do confederate would be wise to submit their registrations pronto, as Jerry Stiles' company of SWB members and friends isn't too far from topping out. Bev and I need to get back to cranking out ship's biscuits sometime this week, too.

But, back to the boys in blue. Federals in central Virginny are usually a crap shoot. There is something about the Rappahannock River that appears to be a barrier of sorts, and compounding matters is the fact a good number of the fellows who would normally attend a GMH08 type event shot their hobby vacation and kitchen pass wad on Winter 1864. The guidelines are easy to meet, so it sure isn't the material culture that is holding 'em back.

Lot's of federal "HMICs" still to register. That acronym is "Hey, man, I'm coming!" for those not in the loop.  Between two well known mid-Atlantic groups, that would be 42 promised souls.  No names, please.

Can't say you weren't warned.

The Confederate response has been far better than expected, so it is time to cut off registrations for the 47th Virginia Infantry impression.  Registrations postmarked thru Thursday, 20 March 2008 will be accepted. Confederate registrations (other than the advertised specialty impessions) postmarked after that date will be returned. If you want to go gray, then this is the time to get your registration in the mail.

Hey Dave,

How was the participation on the Federal side of the lines? From listening to roll call it seems we lost only four or five guys, on the Confederate side. Although we did lose a few people during the course of the event.  smile/indecis.gif

Out of 45 Federal registrants, there were 4 who let us know they couldn't make the event by e-mail before hand. The 45 included the 4 sharp shooters, Dan Wambaugh and his boys from Michigan. So, there were only really 2 no shows. We lost no men during the march; The boys did a fine job.

Grumpy & Bill,

Some aspects of this event reminded me of Payne's Farm. Both had a paved loop road around the site, and both were dependent upon timing for inserting and extracting certain assets, be they water, subsistence, ordnance, or human.

The rebs had a couple of fellows who let us know they were leaving early, so they were picked up and hauled back to the Malvern Hill parking lot. Deese was suffering mightily, and was laid low by the fire at Camp Hay Rake. A few hours sleep did him well, and really and truly I'd have hated to see him try to drive home both sick and tired.  Believe me when I say the Kabuki Team from NY and MD were all sleepy well before they reached The Bunker on Sunday.

The difference in morale between the two companies was amazing. I can't get over that. Was it due to lack of pie on the federal side? Was the beef not salty enough? Was there something in that CS coffee substitute? Were scallions the secret weapon?

Only The Shadow knows....
