If you ever really get stuck for a source for those one pound powder cans, and you need a bunch, try McMaster-Carr. They are online these days, and have a nice selection of containers, including those tins, as well as some that work well for salves, ointments, Essence of Coffee, etc. Cheap, too.

Referring back to the bulk powder I mentioned in my last post, we buy it in 1 lb. metal cans in usually 25 can lots. Our cost is slightly under $8 per lb. We sell it to ourselves for $10. We save money, the company makes a buck a pound for the company funds. We usually buy the Lidu 2F, which gives good bang and smoke, which is all we're after anyway. Even if you don't buy as a unit, 3 or 4 pards can go together and buy in bulk amongst yourselves to save a little.

I also make generic cartridge tubes. By having all musket supplies available in company, we are self sufficient. We do a fair number of LH type events with no sutlers, so we have to be that way.

We buy it in 25 pound bags.  Usually a couple of us will get 50 pounds each.  It is weighed and repackaged in empty powder tins.  We sell it to our members for whatever we paid for it.  We try to do the same thing with percussion caps but they were not available from the powder vender the last time an order was placed.

Charles,

Never heard of McMaster-Carr before.  I just took a quick look at their website and thought I died and went to heaven.  How many times I've wanted some kind of industrial product in small quantity or for home use and had no idea where to look.

I owe you one.

Ron,

MC has a very nice catalog as well.  My employer has used them for many years.

I just ordered some stuff for the office from them last week.  Very helpful and friendly group.

Didn't know I could find stuff for my hobby there.. may have to check out the catalog.
