Anybody know about the Keagy Noble blankets from Waterside Woolen Mills in Woodbury, PA? Here's a link http://www.watersidewoolens.com

Tom, You can check availability here: http://www.watersidewoolens.com/HowtoOrder.htm Oddly enough, the same blanket appears to be less expensive here: http://www.jarnaginco.com/CWAccessories.html

EJ Thomas has a few in stock, but at risk of drawing the ire of my fine friends there, Jarnies is a pretty good copy for the money. I've viewed several at Fort McAllister picked up for the "barracks" last year, and I was shocked when Danny Brown, the manager, told me where he got them. Its rare when I'll tell someone to go to Jarnagin, but they've got a nice Fed blanket now.

Ace, Everybody has their own idea of how authentic is authentic enough and there is no definitive answer to that question.

Dave, Depending on how you choose to camp, or whether you wear a blanket roll or knapsack, a blanket can be one of the most visible aspects of an impression, or darn right invisible. Spending good money on a high quality blanket pays off in the end, and I'll have to say I've managed to get more than my money's worth from a WisVet Auggie Weissert blanket over the years. That replaced a Barron Woolen Mills blanket, sold by...you guessed it. That WisVet blanket has now been patched with remnants of two other blankets made during the "Blanket Blizzard" circa 1999-2003. While you are flipping through the pages of the Jarny catalog, you might was well get a decent gum blanket.

Charles that is a good point. When I was using a wool blanket that turned out to tbe WWII surplus (but it was all wool) I would keep it in my knapsack until right before I needed to wrap up in it. And would roll it up as soon as I was awake.. so I was able to attend events with "inspections" before them and have no problems. But I think we discussed in another thread that some of those vintage olive drab blankets could pass for a period blanket..

Greg, Belive me when I say I per nigh left a racing stripe in my drawers when I opened that Wis Vet package, unzipped the plastic bag, and saw what looked to be a dead wringer for those one dollar army surplus blankets from M&G in Norfolk. After the initial shock wore off, it was obviously not the same, however, it was a moment for sure. Most of those inspections are pretty basic. If you'd still had the temperature control and electric cord dangling from that powder blue blanket, they'd have asked you to remove it. Just kidding.

As of this day C&D Jarnagin is out of Keagy Noble blankets. The voice on the phone said they had more on order and to check back in about two weeks.
