Ok so have any of you folks held either of the blockade runners tin drum canteens. Either the regular smooth sided one or the one at the bottom of the page with the convex side(s).
If so what kind of quality is it?
How does it compare with an original?

I know of the higher quality vendors like Village Tinsmith, Otter Creek, etc. If you know me yo uknow I strive for higher end stuff, however I kind of went well over my reenacting budget this year and have a few things to still get, cutting corners where I can. Thanks.

Joseph,

Based on the photos, those canteens looked pretty good. The fact of the matter, this is one of those times you don't really need the best. Most of the domestically made equipment, that was issued by the Confederacy, was pretty much crap. If you do mostly a western impression, I'd get the flat faced canteen, If you do mostly an ANV impression, I'd go with the convex faced canteen. That was the most PEC for these two Armies. The first thing I'd do is throw away that fancy Federal style stopper and replace it with a cork, corn cob, or wood stopper. Oh yeah, you don't need a string to connect the stopper to the canteen. That was pretty rare on Confederate issue canteens.

Other people's mileage may vary.

Oh yea I was going to seriously pimp the canteen.  I planned on stripping it of the sling and stopper and carving a stopper for it and making a new sling with some material I have here based on some I have seen.
