I guess you need to define change or what made you stop previous and if that has changed. I would say some of us attend fewer, but more authentic and quality events.

Rich, Back when you were participating in the Hobby, where did you feel you fit in the authenticity scale?

The more things change the more they remain the same. Probably the three biggest changes in the past three years would be the resurgence of the mainstream, the rotation of folks organizing top end events, and the demise of FHW as a retailer.

Not sure if this will answer your question but here goes, when I started it was with a mainstream infantry unit, after a year or so I realized there was a little more that I wanted out of the hobby, however on a friendship level there where some good people in the unit (at that time). So I stayed and tried to improve my impression, which a few others and I did. However after constant arguments with this unit's leader, I decided to move on. Joined a group that did only living history, much better impressions. However the politics of that unit, as well as the politics of the hobby in general caused me to take some time to reflect on what I wanted out of this thing called re-enacting. After much thought and discussion with other folks, I decided it was time to move on........ currently doing WWII with a group of like-minded folks and loving it. --Last edited by indian lover on 2007-03-06 04:12:32 --

That's the key to happiness, finding like-minded folks to do things with. I have long been a proponent of the internet in the hobby because it allows us to hook up with similarly minded-folk from all corners of the nation (and some parts of the world, for that matter) and either create our own events, or just attend events with others who have a similar interest. There are many rungs in the authenticity level of reenacting, find the rung that's right for you and go for it. Linda.
