Here is an opportunity for a proud old rooster to fly up on the hen house roof and crow about his wife. My wife is a William Faulkner expert. She would not dare say that herself, but she most assuredly is. Some years ago when the William Faulkner statue was dedicated in New Albany, MS, a good number of Mississippi writers were invited to attend. My wife accompanied Mr. Shelby Foote to that dedication service. She told me later on that several times Mr. Shelby leaned over to her and said, “Bill wouldn’t have liked this at all.” | |||
