This is a pretty good unit history of one of the lesser known (and even less seldom portrayed in our hobby) cavalry units of the A.N.V. The vast majority of companies in this unit were from Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia who "came east" to fight in Virginia at the start of hostilities. Rarely numbering more than 300 men, they were engaged in many of the eastern cavalry actions. The book is well written as far as a regimental history goes, with plenty of diary excerpts. While equipment and ordnance returns are absent, insight as to equipment and arms are mentioned in a lot of the diaries and personal letters. Overall, a pretty good read for a regimental history, exceeding several of those in the Virginia Regimental series. A good addition to any cavalry library.
