Grumpy,

A lot of doubles there, but I figure I've visited 65 of the sites mentioned, plus a few that weren't on the list

It is also neat to see how the dates are laid out.  As I have been reading the Wilbur Fisk book, he seems to talk about a lot of marching and down time and the list you have shows that.

There are those flurries of fighting and then weeks of licking the wounds and repositioning.  Until you get to 64 area and then you can see where it starts to really pick up.

   Hallo!

I once was creating a diary for an impression/persona, and tracked my unit for the year and a half of the diary (1862 through May of 1863) based on histories and other diaries and accounts.

I found it interesting "tracking" mundane daily events like marching six miles from Town A to Town B, ten miles from Farm C to Farm D, maybe camping overnight in a woods or barn... and all the "minutiae" of a soldier's daily life getting "to" and "from" the Famous Name Big Battles.

IMHO, quite a different "take" than on the usual history of things...

One of the joys of being a salesman for almost thirty years was that I was able to visit almost every battlefield in Virginia and Maryland. I always kept a selection of the "Civil War Trails" maps in the car and made good use of them. The down side was that many of my visits were on the fly, between calls and I couldn't spend a lot of time. Two of the more out of the way battlefields I was able to visit were Saltville and the Staunton River Bridge. Both small, but important battles.

Grumpy,

That list leaves out a few naval engagements, but pretty much tracks well with the "NPS 384" list from the ABPP, which is starting to gain quite a few cobwebs. Has it really been that long? Wow.

Anyway, here is a list of the ones I haven't visited, or at least can't recall stopping by:

Belmont        MO
New Madrid MO
Farmington MS
Russell House MS
Secessionville SC
Bayou Cache AR
Richmond KY
Munfordville KY
Hatchie Bridge MS
Chaplin Hills KY
Lawrenceburg KY
Georgia Landing LA
Coffeeville MS
Hartsville TN
Prairie Grove AR
Chickasaw Bluffs MS
Hartsville MO
Arkansas Post AR
Fort Bisland LA
Irish Bend LA
Magnolia Hills MS
Plain's Store LA
La Fourche Crossing LA
Hill's Plantation MS
Liberty Gap TN
Helena AR
Donaldsonville LA
Assault on Fort Wagner SC
Morganzia LA
Philadelphia TN
Grand Coteau LA
Campbell's Station TN
Bean's Station TN
Mossy Creek TN
Buzzard's Roost GA
Okolona AR
Cane River LA
Marks's Mills AR
Jenkins's Ferry AR
Bayou Glaize LA
Fort Johnson SC
John's Island SC
Fort Davidson MO
Allatoona Pass GA
Little Blue MO
Griswoldville GA
Deveaux's Neck SC
Fort McAllister GA
Egypt Station MS
James's Island SC
Sugar Loaf Battery NC
Natural Bridge FL
Wilcox's Bridge NC
Selma AL
Spanish Fort AL

Spent the night on Morris Island and never made to the sea side where Battery Wagner used to be! Darn!

This is much easier than trying to recall which ones I've slept on for events or otherwise. Funny thing is the NPS 384 list only hits a portion of the 1,200 or so. Now, there's a list worth trotting out once in a while.
