Didnt seem like 13,000 to me. But we were pretty well spaced out too. Rain... hmmm.. it rained enough on Friday that my corset ended up soaked..not a comfortable feeling at all lol. Other than that, and a few small showers here and there, it wasnt all that bad. I didnt think there were a lot of spectators either. But thats just my opinion. I think the rain was my fault lol.. thats what I get for buying your tent Dave --Last edited by chatrbug on 2008-07-08 15:16:36 --

Dave, I'd estimate 8-10,000 military participants. It was hard to figure since most units only participated in one scenario per day. There seemed to be a lot of spectators. I know those big green bleachers were full during each of the scenarios I was in. It's funny, we were trying to figure out how much money was being spent to watch us. It was a lot. From my limited perspective, Friday's scenario sucked, Saturday's was better, and Pickett's Charge came off pretty well. It rained a lot, but never real heavy. I know we marched out to every scenario in the rain and Saturday was the worst. It rained through the entire scenario. The weather was actually more of an issue during AHT. Lots of lightning and high winds. At GAC, it just rained. After two weeks, my tent stank so bad from wet clothing and sweat, I considered sleeping outside.

It was a steady rain the few hours I was there on Saturday visiting with some sutler folks I know and dropping of an order with my home unit. I was pretty wet by the time I wrapped things up. As to numbers, my guess from seeing the units march out for the event and knowing about 1/2 were in reserve for the second battle would be around 9k to 10K. I know the camps were rather cramped. Some guys I talked to mentioned how they had to clear small trees to set up camp.

There were more dismounted from a horse dismounted cavalry troopers on the ground firing carbines than infantry at Outpost 2007. The field was too small for the numbers on site......wide field, but not superbly deep. And the darn Moat in the middle really missed with what little historical accuracy you could look for (very little to begin with unfortunately). 96 cannon....and the 24 pound howitzer was LOUD/concussion could be felt. We were hoping for 1,000 in our Division.....ended up with roughtly 600. 4 battalions, 2 brigades, lots of officer's. Under 10,000 military.

Thanks everyone for your input. It sounds like everyone had fun at the events they attended, found old friends and made some new ones.

FWIW: One thing I noticed was the lack of "high end" (for lack of a better phrase) sutlers/vendors. S&S of Gettysburg, who are usually at most eastern mid-large events, was nowhere to be found. Pitty, too, I was in the market for a couple of roller buckle belts I had spied at New Market. I saw Ben Tart's tent, and unless I was blind, he was about the only one there of the highly authentic persuasion. Plenty of other's there, though.

I wonder if they (S&S) were at AHT? I was in the shop a few weeks ago and Tim and his Daughter were discussing her going with her unit. I know the sutler space rental fees were really really high. Did you make the drive into town to get your new toys?

Yep, Tim and Debbie were at AHT. Visited a few times, plus on Monday in their shop. They gave me the impression they were setting up at GAC too. Maybe I heard wrong.

Dave: Once I parked, I wasn't leaving till Sunday. The good folks at S&S are usually at Cedar Creek, so I'll pick 'em up there. It'll give me an excuse to hit sutler row before I set up camp, and after, and usually Saturday....... I love S&S, to the point that my lovely bride insists I take along adult supervision when visiting. Of course, I always do

My understanding was that S&S were the sutler coordinators at AHT. When we got to AHT, Dirty Billy hadn't opened his tent, so we had to go back into town to his shop to get my newphew his hat. Which wasn't that bad of a drive.

I don't have the specifics, but I heard Tim's at S&S is having some health issues which is why they may have skipped GAC. They are also not going to make Chikamauga from what I understand. I'm keeping him in my prayers.
