I know this usually leads to some interesting discussion when it is pictures of soldiers.. but what about some civilians..

I did a search and here are some things that were available on Ebay.. (searched for civil war)

http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h297/va_sgt/Civilian-ebay.jpg

From the sellers page:
GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION OF PHOTOGRAPHER/STUDIO: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
IMPRINT ON FRONT: None.
IMPRINT ON BACK:"F. GUTEKUNST (,) Photographer, 704 & 706 Arch St. (,) PHILADA."
WRITING ON BACK OR FRONT: A name was penciled on the back of the card mount at the top, but it was smudged out at some point in time. However, the penciled year of "1862" is still clearly visible.

GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION OF PHOTOGRAPHER/STUDIO: Racine, Wisconsin.
IMPRINT ON FRONT: None.
IMPRINT ON BACK:"LOCKWOOD & ELY, PHOTOGRAPHIC ARTISTS, 142 MAIN STREET, Racine, Wisc."

http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h297/va_sgt/lady-ebay.jpg
GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION OF PHOTOGRAPHER/STUDIO: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
IMPRINT ON FRONT: None.
IMPRINT ON BACK: "O.H. WILLARD, CARTES DE VISITE, 1628 Market Street, Phila."

Also, notice how shiny looking the pants are...similar to tuxedo material.

Also, the man in the middle looks as if he could have some American Indian blood in him.

Just a thought before I get up from the computer. I've looked at 100's of CW Civilian photos and you know, I don't ever remember seeing a "snood" in any of them. EVER. So, I did a quick look over of all the ladies I have saved up and, nope. Not a one. Interesting or bad luck?

Concerning that gang of six juanty fellows, the man seated on the far left of the picture could be a civilian picture of our first sargent.(Company A , 6th Ohio)
That even looks like a group he would hang with.

These pictures are great, thanks to all who post them.

You're right Dan...that does look a bit like our first sergeant!  Although I'm not so sure he'd wear his hat a bit cockeyed like that.

Do you think the 6 of them wear their hat that cockeyed all the time or was it just for the photo?

The man second from the left on the front row seems to be wearing a military sack.

Private purchase perhaps? It may be my monitor but the collar doesn't look right to me for some reason.

I am noticing it seems that many of the men's coats seem to be large on them and they just hang on them.  Like they are a size too big..

Was this common to have it loose like that?  Or is that more the difference between a sack coat and a frock?  Where a frock might have a more tailored look to it?

Awesome pictures, I just got a new sack coat last month and now I am in the process of "defarbing" it. Oh and by defarb I mean I have to hand sew the buttonholes and tweak the collar and lapels a little bit to my taste. Thes pictures of the real deal will help me in that process.
