smile/eek.gif Wow, I was paying $5.80 a tin in the Spring of 2006 before the bottom fell out.  That was at Bass Pro.

Ken

I stopped by Bass Pro in Ft Lauderdale last week while I was down there and they told me they stopped carrying the caps a couple of years ago because of low sales.

Bob,

I was in Fort Lauderdale during Spring Break. I can truthfully say that percussion caps never crossed my mind. smile/eek.gif

I guess when you live in Florida and have been happily married for about 20 years that stuff barely turns your head any more.

Hello.

I have gotten into several "discussions" about the percussion cap shortage on a couple of other forums.....with mixed results.

In response to a previous post about Rockwood Holdings,  this is the skinny:

The four businesses acquired represent total revenue of approximately $1.6 billion in 2003. The businesses are focused on highly specialized markets and products such as white pigments (Sachtleben Chemie GmbH, Duisburg), surface treatment and lithium chemicals (Chemetall GmbH, Frankfurt/Main), ceramics (CeramTec AG, Plochingen) and pharmaceutical intermediates (DNES Custom Synthesis consisting of DNSC, Finorga and Rohner).

From the above statement,  Dynamit-Nobel did not release it's percussion cap business to Rockwood.  According to first hand information obtained by me from a person who orders these caps in MASS quantites for their business,  RWS moved it's import/distribution center from New Jersey to, I believe she told me, Arkansas or Alabama.  The caps were never manufactured in the USA, they've always been imported.  A change in the importation of explosive materials law after 9-11 has impacted the importation of these as well as the sale of RWS products.

However, the individual I purchase my RWS caps from said they have a Large supply that is not in any danger of being depleted anytime soon.  In fact, I ordered 2000 and they arrived within four days.

Now for the non-believers,  Navy-Arms company IS out of business, at least their musket cap business.  It was situated in Brazil and has since gone kablooey about 4 years ago.  Any Navy-Arms caps that you purchase now is a finite quanity.  In fact I personally haven't seen any NA caps for sale in over 10 years, although I am aware they are available.

If any of you remember the previous discussion from the other forums, please be aware that I will not get into a heated debate with you about the information presented here.  Take it as you will, and form your own opinion....or do your own research.
