Bernard:

That is a sharpshooter's medal. The eagle portion has been found attached to Berdan's Sharpshooter related items.

Hmmm..the 66th Illinois would make sense..I have a book from Blue Acorn Press titled "With the Western Sharpshooters: Michigan Boys of Company D, 66th Illinois..this outfit was armed with Dimick target rifles then later with Henry repeaters.

Tried to help you out by looking up info.  Cornelius of the 69th NY was 38 when he enlisted in 1861.  (Does he look 38 or younger/older)

The other two I can't located ages for.  There is also a reference to a Cornelius McCormick in the Adjutant Generals report for the State of Kentucky but I don't have my CD (got it as a Christmas gift) handy to see what it says.
